again the world mourns for what happened in VA tech. when you hear a youth shoot 32 people and himself, it is pretty disturbing.
today's episode of larry king live included clips about the victims of the shootout. stories from their friends and families. it is sad sad sad to hear about promising teenagers lives cut so abruptly. of brave teachers thinking of others before himself, eventually falling victim.
neil gaiman mentioned that one of the victims is the son of hugo award winning michael bishop. i don't know michael bishop, but i got to see the work of his son jamie bishop on his website. gone too soon. he could have reached places with his skill and talent. and those other kids who fell at cho's gun.
let's pray for each other. not just for virginia tech. but for every person who feels isolated or hurt or bullied. hopefully each one can find solace in another. cliche as it may seem, misery does love company. dividing sorrow can also minimize pain.
sigh.

and secretary of injustice raul gonzales strikes again. this idjot definitely has lost his marbles calling julia campbell irresponsible for walking around batad on her own. idjot, idjot, idjot! why doesn't he just shut his mouth. sangdangkal na gago ka raul. buhay ka pa mukha ka nang bangkay! grrrr...
i mourn everyday i hear news with you in it. especially with you talking. whatever school you have come from may just be cringing with embrassament for your stupidity.

i don't like the secretary of justice but (oh god this will make me unpopular) take away the bad taste and the obvious lack of tact he was basically correct.
i don't think it's wise to travel alone in a place you're not familiar with. i've stressed that enough when i was working for a volunteer organization. and we do travel in packs (sort of) when we go on vacation. we hire guides, befriend the locals and yet we still tell people where we are through texts and we keep to ourselves when necessary. or well at least i do tell my family where i am.
there's safety in numbers. we used to tell volunteers that. i think.
of course all precautions in this world will not stop someone with a criminal mind from doing dastardly acts. dying at the hands of another person for reasons other than self-defense (or the other justifying circumstances allowed under the law) is reprehensible and should be punished.
but it was unwise (and not irresponsible) from the start to trek batad alone. for one thing there are no clear trails going there (particulary that resting place before the falls) and only a local could guide one there.
could it have been prevented? i really don't know. i don't think batad has a tourist system similar to sagada where ALL tourists are required to register and where all guides are licensed somewhat. i mean how could you license plying the rice fields in batad anyway? and besides we're dealing with someone with evil intent here.
i'm looking at this from the perspective of being a volunteer once, having worked in a volunteer organization and having traveled in this country a lot including batad for that matter. i take security seriously. maybe it's my paranoia or maybe i'm not really adventurous but that's another matter.
so there. still it was made in bad taste. and obvious lack of tact. moreso with his latest tirade of asking those who lambasted him to hike the batad trail alone.
