super inggo

when i first heard there was going to be an abs-cbn superserye titled super inggo, i didn't pay it much attention. i was thinking, it's probably going to be one of those overrated star magic teens who will in the starring role. but when i saw the trailer and discovered the title role belonged to a kid, it finally got my interest.

a kid superhero. in the philippine context. hmmm... that would be interesting.

when a long clip was shown in one of the abs shows (which gave half the plot away), it really made me want to watch and see. why? because old time super heroes like kumander bawang (reprised by herbert bautista), super islaw (an old richard gomez role, now played by zanjoe marudo), super inday (a famous role by maricel soriano, appropriately turned over to meryl soriano), petrang kabayo (a roderick paulate starrer, now empoy) and machete (once played by gardo versoza and cesar montano, and now derek ramsey) were included in the story line. not to mention the son of kumander bawang named... boy bawang! that's free plugging for the famous kornick manufacturer. wala lang, aliw. The only weird thing about the heroes is jessa of blusang itim is included (formerly snooky serna and princess revilla, now played by a relative unknown na di ko talaga kilala). whyyyyyyyy?! (for my theory, they got all of them in one show so GMA couldn't make teleseryes out of them anymore)

anyway, the idea of having a local version of the justice league got me. if you think about it, the more famous of our local superheroes often worked alone. whodathunk they'd band together? as to why, that has not yet been established in the show.

there are obvious rip-offs from harry potter and sky high, definitely. the heroes are looking for a ten-year old boy who may one day battle the prince of darkness (played by brad murdoch, voice dubbed because no dark spawn speaks in twang!). when they finally find him, (not yet showing), they bring him to an academy of superheroes. from last friday's episode, i get the impression that there are going to be houses ala-griffyndor too.

i don't care much about the borrowed storyline. for now, i'm more interested in how they plan to execute the imitation. and this is one of those stories where the lead character can carry the entire show by himself. makisig morales is an impressive budong. he reminds me of niño mulach at a time where he couldn't care less about politics. makisig is amusing and full of energy and oftentimes engaging. even the irritating love interest, maya, is cute in her pretentiousness and an attempt to be a coño schoolgirl.

seeing angelu de leon and mark anthony fernandez playing parent roles kinda makes me feel old knowing that i used to watch her in ang tv and waited for his asap guestings. and am glad to see my favorite kaye abad back. the role doesn't ask much of her thespic skills but am just happy looking at her and wishing we had the same face. hehehe!

all in all, i like watching it. and hope for the best in terms of story development. for now, i go home in time to see super inggo. except tues and thurs as it is frisbee games. hehe!
