Six days since my last post! Cool, that could be runner up for the longest inbetween posts I have made.
Last Wednesday, I had the flu. Cough, colds and fever. Had to drink antibiotics and still drinking now. Still have coughs, still have colds but not enough to stop me from enjoying Kadayawan.
It was also last Wednesday when Jan arrived from Manila to join the Kadayawan festivities (which he spent playing basketball while street-dancing was going on), and possibly to stay around for three months for "carpe diem stuff" as his press release goes (but the way things are going, he'll be doing work for Assisi projects again).
Thursday and Friday was spent strategizing for the programs of Assisi. Though not internally part of Kadayawan, it was great having to set a vision for the years to come. Plus an endless supply of food always encourages me to attend activities, with or without flu.
My Kadawayan celebration started Friday night. For the last month, I have been awaiting the return of the La Carlota Drumbeaters from guess where... La Carlota (Negros Occidental). Three guys playing various percussion instruments with another dude handling the scratchbox. Cowbells, chimes, bongos, snare and such. Last year, I danced for three hours. Just about as long as their entire set. No rest, just a continued onslaught of drumbeating that you can't help but sashay your hips to. Unfortunately, since I had the flu, I just had enough energy to bob my head up and down while teasing Jan to do a mambo (in my dreams, though).
I will not bother talking about the Jaboom twins, the twangy Amboy who'd twist your arms if you won't join his SMB contest and the walk around in low-rise jeans and show your g-string contestants of the Impit Purok contest. But they provided much entertainment for those moments you just need to okray something.
Saturday was spent watching the Indak-Indak sa Kadayawan while Sunday was spent in the Darong River tubing. Watch out for more detailed info and pictures in the next post.
So ends this quickie post.
