With the taste of the seventy-peso tenderloin steak still lingering in my mouth, my mom and I settled in our seats at Cinema 5 of SM Davao waiting for Monster-in-Law to start (regal Jane Fonda, yummy Michal Vartan – that’s enough of a summary and review of the movie).
Suddenly the theme and trailer of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory played on screen. Like a five-year old child about to be given a candy treat, I gasped, squealed (just loud enough for me to hear) and clapped my hands in delight. It entranced me as the Pied Piper’s flute charmed the children of Hamlin.
I AM SO EXCITED!!! And it’s coming on the week of my birthday.
My excitement for the movie is so high, it could almost topple the joy of anticipation for Neil Gaiman’s arrival in the Philippines. Almost. But not quite. Anyway…
WILLY WONKA IS COMING!!! *jumps up and down, squeals in delight, runs around the street and hugs everybody around*
Why the excitement? See… I’m a Roald Dahl fan. I love whimsical children’s books (my favorite is still “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and other Stories”). And I love it when they are made into movies. So I’ve seen “Matilda,” “James and the Giant Peach,” and “The Witches.” And they were simply wonderful, scrimdiddlyumptious and fantastical!
But the best of them all was “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.” Back then it was Gene Wilder who played the role of the silly chocolate factory owner. And I loved loved loved the movie. Oompa-Loompas and chocolate rivers and flavored wall paper and giant bubbles and everything-everything about the movie. It was a child’s dream!!! And at almost 27, I wouldn’t mind getting that golden ticket either.
Since DVDs started coming out, I’ve wanted an, ehm, extra-legal DVD version of the movie. Especially since I haven’t seen it in a long time. But well… it will be showing on August 27 on Channel 23, so that would be another thing to look forward to. (But if you do find one around, do give me a buzz.)
But then… the Tim Burton version is coming! It’s coming-coming-coming! His non-linear mind would create more magic for the movie. And with Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka!!! Oh-woweeeeee! *cartwheels, sommersaults and backflips* Not because he’s a gorgeous bad boy hunk, mind you. *nose grows a few centimeters* Fine, partly because he’s a gorgeous bad boy hunk. *nose grows back to original size* But mostly, because… if there is anyone who can pull off a Willy Wonka, it’s him. I mean, if he was able to get an acting nomination for the somewhat-gayish Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Carribean, Willy Wonka would be a piece of cake.
Ooooh! Willy Wonka. Can’t wait, can’t wait.

May I recommend you check out the soundtrack.
Its disturbingly delicious. Tribal drums, percussions, brass horns and lots of voices!
I like it.
And it scares me.
Yeah. That good.
:-D
Hi Anj! Long time no see!
Alam mo, naiintriga nako dyan sa Oompa-Loompa song na yan. Lagi kinanakanta ng mga friends ko. I haven't seen the orig Charlie and the Chocolate Factory so hindi ako maka-relate. I think I'll watch the new version though. Idol ko kasi si Johnny Depp. Nais ko din maging isang gorgeous bad boy hunk sa mata ng kababaihan =P
hello! when i first read the name of your blog, cross-eyed bear, sabi ko sa sarili ko -- "eto ba yung lyrics ng you oughta know ni tita alanis?"
hahahaha! sabi ko na nga ba hinde! hahahahahaha!!!!
miss you anj! sana makapagbonding tayo minsan. di ko alam kung pupunta si ina ng kadayawan, she's still ill. bahala na si batwoman. :)
Ilang tulog nalang, dadating na talaga si Willy Wonka!!!
By the way...
Thanks for the birthday card, Anj. It was a pleasant surprise. You still are one of the most thoughtful people I've ever met. *hugstoadeardeardearfriend* (I'll make sure Erik gets his!)

babypink: di ba, exciting talaga. can't wait. ilang tulog na lang!!! :)
anj! i saw na charlie on pirated dbidi...i'd say i like the orig better. i don't want to douse your enthusiasm naman, so just go ahead and tell me what u think when u see it na :) the oompa-loompa numbers are contemporary tunes na! may salsa na rocker na ewan! hehehe.
maan: oooh, salsa-ing oompa-loopas... that would be a sight to behold. enthusiasm still on! chocolate rivers are enough motivation. mmmm... will let you know how it fared for me! hehehe!
I have a copy of the original movie in my PC (vcd format) hehe... ;-)
If you want, just ask Jan to bug me about it heheheh...
